Hampton Inn San Diego/Del Mar

Located in Carmel Valley of San Diego, within a mile of a shopping center. Area feels safe at night. Friendly staff at the front desk and hot breakfast place. Free breakfast every morning with waffles, eggs, and various selections is nice for travelers to start the day. Overnight parking is $12 on top of the nightly rate. There is an underground gated parking garage but we just parked outside near the front entrance. Room is clean and good size. Bed was comfortable. Overall, good value!

My review would of been a complete 5 star but, for the money spent I would think the staff would be more honest. We left some clothes hanging in the closet and the night we checked out I called and was told they found nothing. I called the day after again and they still claim no items were found. Front desk did not even offer to help in any way. Definitely will never stay in this chain again.

Hotel staff is great at front desk when checking in, the breakfast is wonderful as it meets all needs, however the amenities offered do not meet standards, our room only had three towels on checkin and the utensils and plates were only 3 considering our reservation was for 4 people, so we had to contact front desk and couldn’t deliver as housekeeping were gone for the day, we finally managed to get it the next day, the sofa bed was not comfortable , but they provided a topper to go on top of the mattress which made things a little better. The floors were sticky and no one came to clean when we asked so we just let it go and cancelled calling back next day for the cleaning. The front doors of the rooms slam shut so they make a lot of noise when others leave there rooms (they should fix the door arms to stop them from slamming) The most disappointing thing was after seeing Sandiego everyday you can’t enjoy the pool because when it gets dark there are no lights, only one light working. So we are currently here but haven’t been able to use the pool at all.

Undisclosed fees is the reason for the low rating. After checkout I was emailed a statement detailing a 75 dollar pet cleaning fee. My dog did not have any accidents or destroy anything. Additionally I was charged a 12 dollar per day parking fee. Neither of these fees were quoted to me before check in. When quoted a rate that is what I expect to pay, not a 20% inflated charge.
